Workshop and Launch of the GAMA Portal

Archiving Media Art: Politics and Strategies

On September 5th the workshop »Archiving Media Art: Politics and Strategies« will take place within this year's Ars Electronica Festival in Linz (Austria). On this occasion the new European online portal, the Gateway to Archives of Media Art (GAMA), will be launched and presented.

Within the workshop experts will discuss recent strategies of archiving and documenting media art, and the importance of the institutional context for the constitution and perspectives of media art archives and collections

The GAMA portal provides access to a wealth of information about the works of both well-known and emerging European and non-European media artists. The material on media art initially comes from eight European media art archives and can be searched and browsed on this common platform.

The GAMA project was initiated by a consortium of 19 partners ranging from IT experts, academic and cultural institutions to archives and distributors. The 2-year project started in November 2007 and is being supported by the European Community within the e-Contentplus programme.
